The only parts of the series that I find "far-fetched" are the timelines. I'm also impressed by their use of maneuvers and tactics used in the real world. As a person who served in the Canadian Naval Training squadron, then later went to work for the primary contractor of the Canadian Navy's Frigate project, I'm intrigued by these terms and acronyms in use throughout the series. CIWS (used without Phalanx in the name) was the official (and documented) acronym we used in Canada when the Phalanx was ported onto the City-class Frigates built in the late 80's for the Canadian government. Naval staff normally do), instead they use the CIWS (pronounced Seawiz) lingo. It's interesting they don't refer to it as the "Phalanx" (as U. CIWS (Close-In Weapons System) when used alone, is the acronym for the Canadian version of the Phalanx system.
